New Orleans will bring a wealth of young talent into this game including Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and Jrue Holiday but this young movement hasn’t translated into wins yet this year as the Pelicans come into this one at 6-11. Obviously the loss of Zion Williamson has set this team back and I expect to see much improvement upon his return, but as of now their just a bad basketball team.
Brandon Ingram has been a pleasant surprise for this Pelicans team averaging over 26 ppg and 7 rpg. As great of a story that is Ingram is the same can’t be said for Lonzo Ball as this highly touted draft pick is still struggling with his outside shot. To Lonzo’s credit he does play defense is a great passer and rebounder..
Jrue Holiday is the clear leader of this Pelicans team. Jrue is a great floor general with the ability to score and play defense. To bad for Jrue that most nights this isn’t nearly enough to get a win.
Los Angeles Lakers come in flying high losers of only two games all year and one of which was to Western Conference power Los Angeles Clippers. Los Angeles really doesn’t have any flaws in there game. This is a team that can beat you from the perimeter or inside they beat you in a half court or pushing the ball. Their are especially tough with a motivated Lebron James, and right now he’s proving to the world that he’s still one of the best players out there. Lebron is averaging nearly a triple double and has picked up his defense, and when he picks his spots in the game he can’t be stopped.
Let’s not forget that the Lakers also trot out another top five player in Anthony Davis. Davis said his goal at the beginning of the year was to win the Defensive Player of the year, and he just might do it. Averaging 9 rpg, 3 bpg and 1.5 spg and mixing in 25 ppg. As of this article Davis is considered day to day but I do expect him to play in the city that drafted and gave him a chance to play in the NBA. This really is a case of an elite veteran team going on the road and trying not to get tripped up. If Davis plays the Lakers are 15 points better than the Pelicans in this spot. Without Davis should still be 10 point favorites.
After reviewing NBA ODDS and breaking the game down there is only position to take and that’s with the Lakers. At the end of the day the Lakers have the ability to get key stops and the Pelicans don’t. I have this game 127-113 or so with or without Anthony Davis.
